Skalmen lighthouse is no longer in use as an AtoN. In the summer of 1906 the lighthouse workers from Dalsfjord in Sunnmøre arrived the little island. They built a house with the tower on top of the roof. The light came from a 4. order Fresnel lense, produced by Barbier, Benard & Turenne. A secondary light was placed one floor under. The lighthouse was automated in 1988 and demanned in 2002. From 2008 the station was taken out of service. A lightening destroyed the electric system. From 2016 there has been no electricy at the station. In 2024 the lighthouse station was sold to private.
