Most fishing villages in Lofoten was owned by squires. A squire was a landowner, he had fishermans cottages for rent and he controlled the right to participate in the fishery. In Storvågan we find one of Lofoten's oldest squires from 1815. In a period for almost a century here was a traditional fishing village with a lot of activity.
